I passed smog test with almost flying colors

I'm so farking happy I can't believe it. I have never passed a CA smog test with so few hassels.

The car: 86 3.2 Carrera CAB with SSI's, Weltmiester chip, & Bursch exhaust. Obviously I would not pass a visual with the SSI's, but thanks to this being a small little 4X4 pick-up truck type town, the mechanics have only done a smog test on one other 911, & that was my SC last year.

The results:

HC
max allowable 120
average 37
measured 43

CO
max allowable 1.0%
average 0.1%
measured 0.29%

Party time!

Great news! I am in the process of Smogging my 83SC here in Cali as well. I was not as fortunate and failed. I dropped it off at the wrench to find out what it will take. He said that it may be the cat converter. I hope not. Those things are expensive.

Enjoy your ride, David

Sweet, I have one more before I'm exempt. I will probable try once to get it through myself & if it fails take it to JW. I hope to have him install my SSIs afterward. My 96 Mustang just failed & it cost me $400 to fix it Damn computers.

What do you mean by NOx?

They do test for CO2 & O2, which shows on my test results, but it doesn't give the pass numbers.

CO2
idle: 14.3%
2500 rpm's: 14.4%

O2
idle: 1%
2500 rpm's: 0.9%

Nitrogen Oxide.

I thought they test for this throughout California. I know for a fact they do here in So. Cal., just had a smog done on Saturday. Maybe small towns get away without it?

Without a cat. converter, it is unlikely that your car would pass the NOx standard.

I looked again on the results and nothing about NOx.

I'll dig through my paperwork file tonight and see if the previous test (done in the Bay Area before I purchased it) tested for NOx.

I live in Texas, the DFW area, and I had my 82 SC tested last Saturday. We have a two speed dyno test here. They run the car at 15 & 25 MPH in 2nd gear.

Speed 25 Mph 25 Mph 15 Mph 15 Mph
Limits My results Limits My results
HC (PPM) 174 25 180 25
CO (%) 2.19 0.04 1.69 0.12
NOx (PPM) 1258 192 1378 205

Regards,

Jerry Kroeger

I was pleasantly surprised that my 22 year old cat was still working.

Maybe I should drive to Red Bluff for my smog in March so I would not have to put the Cat back on my 83SC. By the way it still has your GHL muffler and sounding great.
Thanks,

O2 Sensor is working.

The test is the old standing rev, not the roller test.

Bill, on my SC I had to put a working cat on the car. There was just no way it would pass without it. The sniffer was way off the charts without it.

But you're welcome to take ad drive and come up for a beer anytime. Glad the GHL is working great for you.
