Mystery switch on 930

On my friend's 930, there's a switch located just left of the fan controls. No wires are attached to give us a clue as to what it controlled. The switch looks factory but not certain. I've heard that Porsche at one time put the speaker fader switch on the dash. Any ideas?

Hooray, I finally know what it's for, thankyou!

That's been bugging me for nearly a year now - I can't wait to get back and se if it still works.

Thanks. I wondered what that was too. We do not have a switch there. Ours has two small horizontal slash openings.

secret switch

I have an 85 930 that has the same switch. The switch operates the 2 fans that are located in the wheelwells to the left of the drivers left leg and the right of the passengers right leg. If you unsrcew the carpeted covers, you'll see a fan housing and ductwork. The fans only work when the thermostat control between the seats is on high. These fans aid in the demisting of the windshiel etc. If you're thermo is on high, and the fans don't work, check the fuse or the fans could be shot. That's common. They're not a fader control. The fader control is on the console between the seats near the a/c contols and the central locking.

Well, now I'm really confused.

My friend's 930 is a '78. But, I don't recall seeing another switch/knob on his console that would control the fader. I'll check it out again and let you know. Thanks for the replies.

mystery switch

Hi. There are subtle differences throughout the 930 development in the interior. Ask your friend to open up the wheelwell side pcs. In my owners manual, there is a nice description of that switch and its function. When a thermostat switch was added between the seats, they added this switch and the fans. Your friend w/ the 78 my not have had that during that period.
