915 second gear

Hi all and hope the sun is still shinning where you are!

I have had my 1985 911 sport for 11 years now and still love it as the day I got it.
I have not needed to do much work on it in that time. Just recently I have put new calipers discs, bearings and pads. plus new plug leeds, expensive suckers.
All the time I have had the car it has been a little bit of a job ( only some times ) going from 3ed to 2ed, not a huge problem. I'm an ok driver and know that this is an old gear box, but are a very good one. just over the last 2 to 3 months it's been steadily becoming more difficult getting through though's gears, and going from 1st to 2ed is getting more finicky. In the service book I see very early in it's life it had a 1st gear shaft and bits worked on, I would say bad gear changing.
There is no unusual noises nor grinding through the changes, I have tried changing revs but not much difference, I can change from 2ed to 1st why moving forward with no grornches or grinding.
Dose this sound as if there may be a sincro issue?

Sorry a bit long but what you think????
Thanks Steve.

The car dose have a factory fitted short sift, also when driving it is so smooth.
actually after adding new front wheel bearings the thing is notably smother, even though there was no sign of warn bearings?.

Servicing is something I stay on top of but not anal about it to the Km.
But trans fluid dose not get changed all that often.

I don't want to start a transmission fluid war, but I just changed mine and went from Swepco to Kendal and the shifting in and out of second gear improved. Mine is a '86 Cab with 70K miles on it. When I drained the fluid I didn't have any metal on the magnetic drain plug. This does not mean you will get the same results, but it is fairly inexpensive and quick to do.

Hi Juergen
Thanks again. I haven't looked at Kendal oils yet, I'm not at my computer but what oil type was it?

I purchased here from our host. It's Kendall 80W-90 GL-5 NS-MP Hypoid Gear Oil.

not all shift bushings are the same

BUT

adjusting can make even poor couplers work better - since you "just did it" I would advise re-visiting that

Kendall helped mine FWIW too
