Have have heard good things about Epoxy Sheild from Rust Oleum.
It allows you to easily paint an epoxy floor on your garage floor. I intend to use this product on my garage when my house is constructed. http://www.rustoleum.com/epoxy_shield.asp ------------------ David 1988 911 Carrera Coupe Leonoff Net |

A while back there was a great thread about this. A guy was going to do a black and white checkered flag look in the garage, not sure how it turned out though?
The Rust-Oleum products looks neat but try Behr (at Home Depot) for a better color selection. Also one coat is a joke, plan on two or three. ------------------ Adrian Pillow 1979 911 SC 1966 VW Microbus PCA - Peachstate Region |

Yeah, I think Behr is about the best product you can use. You can pick some up at any Home Depot. If you're thinking about painting your walls, again, I would highly recommend Behr Premium Plus. There's nothing better. Gee, sounds like I work for this company.

Funny that a thread on this comes up today - I'm just in from the garage after applying the top coat of epoxy laquer.
Started off with a coat of blue epoxy paint at the bottom. After having allowed a week for the paint to harden, I then applied a coat of clear epoxy laquer, on which I spread a mix of blue/white/black sand grains, and today I topped it all off with another coat of clear epoxy laquer. Expensive as h**l, but it's supposed to be the best stuff out there. I now have to wait another week, before I can drive on it. Looks like it will be worth the wait though. ------------------ 1972 911S Targa ************************ My project! |

I'd go with Ace Barbecue Black. Nothing better. A race car deserves nothing less.

I used a product called Chemtron, made by standard paint in Dallas Texas. It is also a 2 part epoxy, but it is REALLY tough. American airlines uses this in the maintance hangers. You have to acid wash your floor the day before putting it down, then one coat the next day. Did mine 5 years ago, still looks good and I work in the garage a lot.

The Behr product is pretty good. They make one that comes with a little pouch of flakes that you throw up into the air right after you paint a certain area to give it a little bit of a neater look. The only problem with garage floor paint that I have found is if you let a gas puddle sit on it for too long, it will eat the paint. But, I would have expected that anyways.

Done!
That is - both the garage floor painting AND the front suspension pan job. ![]() I promised a pic of the finished result, and through the hole where the gas tank is supposed to sit you can see the finish of the epoxy laquer / sand grain / epoxy laquer treatment. ------------------ 1972 911S Targa ************************ My project! |

I agree about the behr products, but have had no bad complaints about the epoxy from rustoleum either. I am a store manager for home depot and I would suggest you go to a store and talk to someone with knowledge because I know it will work much better with proper prep. It might not take to a real smooth surface, you might have to etch it. Good luck and keep shopping Home Depot, it is going to pay for my next porsche.

2 years ago I use Behr paint for my garage floor, first took 2days to acid wash and scrub the floor clean and then painted on 2 coats and waited more than a week before parking on it. In the mean time it has peeled where the tires sit and has flaked in some other places. Next time I will use a 2 part system maybe the paint from Griots.

Two part epoxy. Mixed at the paint shop for you. Apply with a roller and be generous with the paint. It's best to paint on a cool day. The paint is self leveling. No roller marks. Available in any colour. $ 20.00 a gallon. Pal-Guard= Pallet Guard. Used in airplane hangers, warehouses and Costco. When painting a garage floor, it first has to be cleaned with an acid cleaner. Not soap and water. The water will stay in the cement floor for months. And the paint will not adhere. Also keep in mind not to use a cheap paint. Pal-Guard is designed for heavy use. And remember, a garage floors worst enemy is tire heat. ( brake fluid and oil is too, but most people forget about tire heat ) Don't add any sand to the paint. It's not necessary. Sand will only wear out your shoes. And If you wash your car in the garage the sand just gives all of that dirty brake dust a place to hide. And it's hell to scrub out. I painted my garage floor with Pal-Guard and sand in 1987. The entire garage floor looks like new, except the area where I wash my cars. Like I said, brake dust from the wheels just gets around the high spots of the sand. Hope this helps. |
