Post Tires (again)

Hi all.

I have bought another 911 (a 1969 T with E cams) and it has semi race suspension and very small tyres. It was a track car for a while.

The tyres are 195/50 front and 205/50 rear on 15x6" Fuchs. I want to increase this, mostly for reasons of ground clearance. I will also raise car on the suspension (it has about 3" ground clearance at the moment ).

I know the factory diameter is 185/70 (which works out to 215/60 and pretty close to 205/60).

However, I am thinking 205/55. REasons are:

- better tires available in 55 series
- I like shorter gearing, and have about 125hp so NEED it anyway
- it looks cool low...

So, anyone run with this? I don't mind speedo error and the car has track suspension so it will never ride that well.

Opinions welcomed...

I have 205-55x15 RE71s on 7x15 Fuchs on my '72S that has moderate suspension mods (lowered, 18mm sways, 21/27 torsions), and the result is a good looking, excellent handling, compliant tire combo. 205-50x15s are better handling but result in a firmer ride that is not as comfortable on long trips. The 205-60x15s are significantly more wallowy than the 205-55s and are not that much better looking or comfortable IMO.

Another option is to get a set of 16x6 Fuchs, and run 205/55x16's...good tires in that size are more readily available than 15's, plus the wheels have a more modern bead seating design that is desirable for agressive/track use. That's the setup I run on my 70E most of the time, and I have the original "deep" 15x6" Fuchs with 185/70's stored away.

Just a thought.

Cheers,

I run 205/60 rear, 205/50 front. The link below has a pic. I was thinking of running 205/55 up front though.
