Correct 70 911T Antenna?

Attached is a picture of the antenna on my 1970 911T. I am assuming it is incorrect and should probably be a Hirschmann. One of the factory options for my car was code 440, which I understand is a manual antenna on left with loud speak and noise suppression. Is this antenna correct? If not what would have been. Mine is a very early 1970. Many thanks.

Absolutely not correct. That's a cheap, aftermarket replacement. While I don't know for certain what brand would have been original, it would have been telescopic, and not black finish. Like you, I assume it would probably have been a Hirschmann.

You're going to have a ball trying to get an antenna in there. I heard that you have to remove the door to get at the antenna inside the fender. Also, getting the proper Hirschman antenna might be difficult. A shop replaced mine on my 911SC, but they had to source it used to fit properly. Do a search on the subject in the forum.

Thanks for the replys. I can't understand why someone would put a cheap, and it looks cheap, antenna on such a great car. It just cheapens the whole thing. I'll start seaching.

Check with the fellows at the Early 911S Registry BBS for what is "correct".

The ebay antenna mentioned works fine and looks original. Installation is simple. Getting the original out is another story. It needs to come out between the door and fender and the gap is not big enough. What I did was get two persons to hold the end of the door while it was fully open then pop out the top hinge pin. You can now open the gap just enough to get the antenna out, just be careful to not move the door around any more than needed and tweak your bottom hinge.
