Slight Vibration While Shifting

Lately, I have been noticing a slight vibration on the shifter when I shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. It almost sound as if the shifting mechanism needs lubrication (like a whirrrr sound). I will be removing the leather boot this weekend to check if it is a lubrication problem. My concern is that it may also be a vibration which starts at the tranny. Anyone has experienced this phenomena? If it is the transmission, could it be that the tranny is low on fluid. I have not changed the trans. fluid since I brought the car in 1999. I will also check the level this weekend, and plan to replace the fluid in the coming week. I assume that I should use the SWEPCO, which is what is recommended here on the board. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Does the vibration occur only when you engage and disengage the clutch? Does it happen from a dead stop while pulling away in first? If so, it could be the clutch.
