New Ruf (bug) concept

Interesting. I would like to have this one - don't know if I would give up my M5 - but.....

It's an interesting mod, but no matter how much you massage a FWD New Beetle, it's still a FWD New Beetle.

If I were going to drive a FWD vehicle, this is the one I'd pick, no doubt.

For what it's worth, the concept cost $115k to execute, and is being offered for half that! Certainly would make a very unique addition to someone's collection to say the least.

Ronnie's.930 10-09-2012 04:26 PM

What a waste of time, effort and money!

Hollywoods 10-09-2012 04:30 PM

Everyone's entitled to their opinion. Fortunately RUF USA and Jerry Seinfeld feel differently! :D

Nice car, well executed, a bauble for some rich guy or girl....

Whoever wrote the ad copy needs to go back and research capitilzation. This stuff is horrific...

"From the moment you open the doors and are greeted by the Aroma of Fine Leather, to the second you cross the Stainless Steel Door Sills, sit down and are cradled in the Custom Painted Full Leather Recaro Racing Seats, then proceed to wrap your hands around the Thick Matching Leather RUF Steering Wheel and Shifter, you realize "this ain't your daddy's Beetle!"

You immediately notice the incredible Attention to Detail. The Fit and Finish and overall Clean OEM styling. The Craftsmanship and subtle marriage of Form and Function make it clear that this car is truly something unique and quite special."

Ack.

I agree with Herr and Ronnie.

Kind of reminds me of the RUF VW Golf from the late 70's/early 80's that had the 928 V8 in it. I remember reading an article on that car, I think they had to widen the chassis and body by several inches to get the engine to fit, and make custom glass, grillwork, etc....

Cool engineering and execution....but why....

Just because?
If everyone kept asking why instead of trying something different then the world would be a very boring place.

Thank You!

99% of the time this projects been incredibly well received. It began as an idea, and as with most custom projects, got a bit "carried away" the further we got into it. :D

I just figure if someone has to ask "why", they just don't get it.

I remember that car, IIRC they started with a 928 and built all new body panels in the shape of the Golf. It was über cool, too, because the 928 was still a new car, as was the Golf.....

Obviously one should do as they see fit, but what I "don't get" is why would anyone be interested in tricking out a car that is primarily suitable for a teenage girl? :p

Hollywoods 10-10-2012 07:20 AM

You haven't seen it, and you know what? You don't get it ha ha.

As Jerry Seinfeld's person car curator said to me, "Anyone that loves Porsches, that doesn't also love VW's, is just a "poser"! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...oilet_claw.gif

Well, you are posting on the 911 tech board, so not getting all positive thoughts back isn't a bit surprise now, is it? I recommend you post this kind of stuff on the off topic board, where people are a little more open minded!

That said, I also think this is a waste of time. ;) You wouldn't catch me dead in any bug.

Hollywoods 10-10-2012 07:44 AM

I'm not the one who began this post! I only jumped on board when I saw it. I too have owned Porsches, a 1980 911SC Concours Winning example, to hame just one. FYI: The Ruf Bug runs CIRCLES around it!! lolol

aigel 10-10-2012 07:47 AM

It is all in good clean fun - I hope nobody is offended. I realize Hollywoods that you were not the OP. Performance isn't everything. I have had my share of hot hatchbacks with 250+ horses and the FWD and weight distribution just didn't cut it.

Well then, the curator is an obvious headcase, isn't he?!
