Chicken or the Egg?

Well,

I rented a big-ahhhhs trailer all the way to Napa Valley and bought the 72 roller. The car was as advertised, in primer and needing paint, engine and tranny.

I have contacted the owner of the 964 3.6 motor currently advertised on ebay, researched other alternative such as 930 motor, etc.

My confusion is this: should I paint first, then install the tranny/motor -- or do I install the power train, then paint?

Right now, I am leaning towards painting first due to the fact that (as we all know) I get more motivation when looking at a shiny piece of body.

Help!

The subject reminds me of a cartoon which was sent to me recently. Shows a chicken and an egg in bed, both smoking cigarettes. The caption read "I guess we know the answer to that one now"

I'd paint first and clean up the engine bay as well. Will look nicer.

cheers

I am with Brad on this one. That way you can paint all the innards with out anything in the way. Or you could do it my way...Holding all the tubes and wires out of the way while you try to paint around the engine with a spray bomb.

If you are really AR, you could fit the motor, making sure everything is needed in terms of connections, then remove it for painting. I would hate to paint only to find out something needed adjusting and that something involved a painted surface.

If you have to chose one over the other I woudl do the paint then installation.

Porsche Crest Same time-

Doing the paint while the engine is out allows you to both at once.
