What is it and why is there a hole in it?
 

Big lumbering black plastic tubing on the left side of the engine bay blocking out the view of the intake manifold and pretty much everything else. Looks like turbo plumbing. From the fan shroud to what? What the heck is it anyway? And why is there a little hole (pea sized) on the top of one of the tubes? Is there supposed to be a plug in that?

You may be talking about the heater fan...

Thanks G and C. 87 911 3.2. It takes up half the engine bay! Any thoughts about the hole? Will post pic.

it's your fan blower. It helps cool your car when it's really hot, and blows hot air into your heat system. The hole is for a clip that normally holds the cruise control cable.

It's the stuff on the left in this picture, isn't it?

I've got the big tube out, but you can see the small grey clip that goes in the hole.

Search cruise control cable to get the part number.

Yeah, Kidasters, thanks, that's it. I didnt think I had cruise control though, and I do have that cable... please advise?

If you have that cable you have cruise, that's its only purpose

I had cruise but it did not work so I removed all its components ( never would have used it anyway)

I think cruise was standard equipment?

Cruise control is the only reason I still have a drivers license!!! Seriously, I even have to use it on this 40mph speed-trap of a road I live on to keep it safe.

I guess you have a lot more will power than I do!!!
