Show me your fog light delete

I am preparing my collection of turbo panels ready to fit them to my Carrera and the front valence was pretty beat up.
As I was knocking it back to shape, it dawned on me that I really don't need the foglight cutouts. In 30+ years of 911 ownership, I can't recall ever using my foglights.

A grille for brake cooling (and possible future duct) is one option.
The other option is to tack-weld in a blanking plate and cover the hole completely.

I am sure I'm not the first down this track, so show me what you have done with your standard Carrera or Turbo front valances.

You might be either out of touch or too pure "down under." Here in the USA running with four front lights: headlamps plus fogs, is a norm...even if/when there is no fog, which is most of the time. More seriously, are you truly and really sure you don't want the fogs available? Ever drive off down a road with potholes, or poorly/no marked lines or stripes? The fogs illuminate the road immediately up front, before and to the sides of the car. This is an excellent safety feature. My guess: start using the fogs and sooner rather than later you'll appreciate the extra visibility you get about what is right in front of you...visual info that your headlights missed.

Guess my car is too pure or I'm out of touch.....:)
Foglights were an option that weren't installed by the factory on my '78.
Lower valence has no cut outs for them.
Maybe you could find a lower valence for sale that is like mine.
I know they are out there.

Mine had the option but my potholed road dislodged and broke the lens the week after I got the car. In daylight.
But , all is well with the super bright H4 globes. No problems , even with low lying wildlife which is everywhere around here.
Maybe us downunder folk have evolved better night vision?
I cut a hole in the valance to install future brake ducts...

not a huge fan of the fogs either....

My car is getting a 3.6 as well as turbo panels, so looking at the front end today, I figured it might be useful to keep the foglight holes open so that airflow to the standard oil cooler in the right fender and brakes is improved. (The 3.6 also has an engine-mounted cooler.)
Scratch the idea of closing the holes.
Played around with some cardboard today and it looks pretty simple to make up a grille to fit in the opening. Just need to find some nice looking mesh.
Anyone done this - got pics?

..using some aluminum grid I got in the maintenance shot at work, then fastened wth some of the smallest allen button-head bolts and nuts from McMaster

Not a stock spoiler and not a very good pic, but I used an old decklid grill cut to size. Maybe it lets a little more air to my brakes. I think it looks pretty good too.

I like that a lot. It looks very "Porsche".
Great idea. I don't have an old grille to cut up, but it would be easy enough to make something similar.

Ok, this is not a turbo or Carrera but here's my mid-year '74 which did not come with fog lights. I might add a chin spoiler someday.

Pick up an appropriately sized forced air heating floor or wall register (grille) from the local hardware store and fasten to the back?
I picked one up for my Mocal cooler as a stone guard along with a push fan that I will be installing soon. Painted it black, adding a little rubber for vibration and mounting next week once I pick up a switch for the fan.

Yes, they are. www.Rennspd.Com I'm planning to eliminate my fog lights when I paint someday. Assuming I don't backdate instead.

So what sort of blank did you use after eliminating the switch?

Larmo63 01-02-2021 10:19 PM

I tacked on a piece of an old 914 engine lid grille material...
