Interior Finishing
Just got new carpet and am preparing the mistress for the new clothes. Got a question though. Ripping out the old is fairly straight forward...am careful to note how each piece is installed. Question is, how well do I need to clean off the old foam backing? It's getting real old trying to scrape it off...will it make a difference to how well the new carpet binds? Also, the old padding/soundproofing on the floor is disgusting. Is there a good source for new stuff, can I use commerical carpet padding (home), glue that too? Finally, am looking at the piece around the pedals...how does the throttle come apart? Can't seem to find it in the bently or 101 projects (although I have been accused of being partially blind in the past).
Could you with interior carpet replacement experience give me a few hints and pointers...I'm really a newbie at this! thanks RB

1. The throttle pedal, just pulls off the ball socket on the linkage.
2. If you want new padding and insulation, any interior shop should be willing to sell you some. 3. remove all the old glue and crud, the best you can. The cleaner the surface, the beter the new glue will stick. Hope I helped. |

You will need to glue the new carpet in place so a thorough cleaning of the old material is a must. Use 3M adhesive remover and let it sit for a few minutes before scraping. Do this in a well ventilated area.
I would also recommend the 3M adhesive to glue the new carpets in place. Can recall exactly how the old carpet around the pedals comes out. Seems like there was a tie in the rear that must be undone. The new replacment piece should make this clear.
