Post Going without oil thermostat?

Would there be any harm in removing my oil thermostat, and having the oil free flowing at all times? My oil does not go through the cooler so I am assuming it is stuck closed.

I know that cold oil going through the coolers = bad news, but my car only has a loop cooler so what harm can there be?

Be gentle on me if I am WAY off.

Shawn

Check if oil-lines are pinched first. Those friendly guys swapping your tyres are notorious oil-line pinchers.

Second , termostat opens at 80 deg. C, it's bad to drive with oil too cold.

I know, new termostat is expensive.

If you find your lines are OK, you can rebuild your thermostat. There are only 5 pieces in there, that total $109 from Pelican.

Pressure piston, pressure spring, Regulator Piston, and 2 seals.

It is not good for the oild to never heat up
you need to heat the oil to remove water or condensation that collects in the oil. I would not reccomend running with out the Termostat. Your oil will never heat up which is not good. Especially living in a cold climate you wan that oil to get Hot...

Thanks guys. I just checked and sure enough the line was pinched, I have started another thread on trying to fix that problem. Thanks I will NOT go without the thermostat even if it is that too.
