stupid shifter question
Hi gang -
I am putting a one-piece seat into my 80 SC, using the factory rails and some various metal bits to fit it together. I was greatly gladdened to see I had the option of rotating the seat a bit to make the pedals and wheel better centered to the seat. Until I went to run through the gears. ![]() Second gear puts the shifter up against the seat bolster. It appears that, in order to properly shift, the seat will in fact be rotated away from center. Not the end of the world, but still, not the way I wanted it to go. With that preamble, here's my stupid shifter question - is it possible to adjust the linkage so that the shift knob sits a bit more to the right? That would give me clearance from the seat. Having read horror stories of difficult shifting in 915's, I'm hesitant to start monkeying around... this thing generally shifts wonderfully. |

my seat is dead center and shifts fine - seat width might be to blame - however decribe what hits..is it the whole slide into 2nd or just the last little bit...
if just the last bit, maybe a Factory SSK would help also the many of the bushings leave a lot of slop in the coupler, you could gain a lot of space by changing to something a lot better - maybe search the coupler whisperer ![]() just moving the shift planes over is a little harder - not sure how much you would gain, but not sure how much you need

Had the same issue, with my wife driving (seat forward), the shifter would hit the seat in 2nd gear.
Solution? Wevo classic shifter.... |

Here's a few pics -
Centered, and raised in front 1.75" (really too much, but gives great headroom). ![]() Centered and low - a bit too low, really, but makes entry/exit easier. ![]() Twisted outward 1/2" or so, shifter no longer hits, easiest entry/exit. ![]() Appreciate any thoughts. Don't think a SSK would do it, it's pretty well the whole travel. And a $600 fix isn't really what I'm after... If I had an extra shift lever, I'd just bend it and call it a day. the simple solution
the expensive solution the bastardized solution the keep trying solution (lower seat a little, extend the shift arm? some twist, but just enough to clear)) choice is yours

Nothing some judicious and careful application of heat and bend can't solve.
Works better with an optional extension piece for the lever. Factory lever ![]() Factory lever with 3" extension ![]() Sherwood |

Thanks guys, went with the simple solution for now. Man, I forgot what an athletic event getting in and out of these seats is.
Extension would likely be welcome... have to look into that. Looks like the smart move would be to go to fixed side mounts, that would get the seat an inch lower; don't really need adjustability, I'm the only driver. |
