'76 930 Tranny?

Anyone know what the factory tranny was in a 1976 930? Is there a name for the Turbo tranny? 901? 915? G50?

Sorry for all these questions lately; is there a website that has thorough specifics for 1976 930's??

In '76 the turbo four speed transmission was coded 930/30. The casing was based on the 915 but made of aluminum (instead of magnesium). The five speed G50 trans was used in '89 and later.

There's much debate on the four speed vs five speed. Gears are tall on the four speed which makes daily driving somewhat of a challenge. Some owners also feel a five speed would be better at maintaining boost when shifting.

There's plenty of info on this site and the Rennlist forum through the Search function.

thanks, Rich. So am I to assume that the 930 tranny was the same from 1976 thru 1988 on the Porsche?? They all are 4 speeds.

Thanks in advance!

Correct. They were all four speeds. From'75-'88 the factory used different codes for the last two digits after the "930/" designation (30 through 37). Not sure, but I think it referenced different gear sets for final drive ratios.
