LeSchander Engine Drop . . . Follow up
Many who posted to the original thread asked for pictures of the lift set up . . . well here they are.

BTW: The Costco version is a lesser version of the Sears model. The engine is in, thanks to Justin, Dan, Jim, Doug, and George, and a cameo apperance from John Walker (by cell phone). Thanks to all it was a great time. |
I'd also like to point out that Marc was an excellent host for this multi-day "tech session". I'm certain that everyone learned something new about engine drops / clutch replacements from this experience.

Can you describe approx. where the engine/tranny rested on the palette?

Bill:
The muffler sat on the board closest to the lift handle about 2" from edge of board. The trans had to be supported with 4x4s, however, there was not much weight there since the engine is heavier than the tranny. If we were just pulling the motor, the jack would have been perfect. As it was, we had no problem lining up the engine/tranny and lowering the car on to the whole deal. Bolted everything up and that was that. |
OK, who forgot to clean the pallet before we left yesterday?
Like Jim said above, a big "thanks" goes out to Marc (and his family) for making his garage/house available for two weekends of a working clinic. It was a great opportunity to learn and spend time with fellow P-car fanatics. Bottom line is for anyone thinkings about doing this, with the right tools and a little help you can do it! |
There is no substitute for experience. Just seeing this project and knowing it can be done were great, but the invaluable part was in learning the sticking points and solutions that the books just can't adequately cover in a project this detailed. Kudos to Marc for his effort, patience and creativity, and big thanks to Richard for letting us participate.

Sorry I'm jumping in so late here. Thanks to all for the help and the company. It was a great time and I look forward to helping someone else do this job on their car. Marcesq will probably having an engine swap party later this summer. Should be a blast.

Good to hear all is back together and sorry I couldn't stop by to see you all. FWIW, my new cams showed up on Friday and the heads today, still waiting on the pistons. The guy forgot:mad: to twin plug my heads! I have to send back out. Oh well, you learn patience rebuilding engines, eh. Best |
