Lost a friend today.

It seems like this is probably not the place to post this, but at this moment I can't think of a better place. Tonight I was recalled back to my unit for the bad news, one of my fellow dog handlers was killed in an accident today in northern New Mexico. I am not sure of the details, but we are tight group and I am sure that speed may have been a major factor since he loved spirited driving on his Suzuki Katana. Let's all take a moment and think of how quick one can be taken from us, I know my drive back home this evening was a quite a bit slower and I hope none of us have to go through anything like this.

My deepest sympathy. With all the recent events, I must to remember the following Rite:

I know how Police are a very tight knit group, just like us Firefighters.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. I myself am leaving the military to become a Police Officer, specifically I want to work with K9s so this caught my eye. It really sucks when things like this happen, Just remember that God has a plan for everyone, even when bad things happen and it makes no sense.

Thank you so much to everyone who replied...and to Romeo & Kirby as well. I have an update, my friend was wearing his helmet, jacket, boots, and reflective vest. I guess all the safety gear in the world will not prevent such accidents, but the use of them will enhance our chances to continue doing the things we love.
Last night we lowered the base flag to half staff, and tonight at 2000 hrs, we are going to have a ceremony and raise the flag back to full staff. His dog Zorro will be present and we are going to tape the ceremony for his parents who are out of state. Thanks again for your support.

I too want to say how sorry I am to hear about your friend (as a former cop & owner of 3 dogs...I know how your friend probably was as close as a family member to you)! It sounds as though your team gave him nice and respectable honors.
I was riding my motorcycle most of this afternoon, and this news makes me sad.
