Ahhhh...having good credit is over rated. I'm fed up with waiting for my cylinder heads. Tomorrow I'm mailing them out and throwing them on the trusty Visa.
That should bring my total bill up to the ole $2300 dollar range. May be peanuts to some of you but I have never charged more than $200 on the damn thing before and every penny owed on it now are Porsche parts. I hate credit cards because "A"...it's real easy to get in trouble, and "B"...I don't consider it "my" money like some I know...it's a high interest loan in my eyes. Screw it all...I want my baby back and it ain't gonna happen any time soon unless I charge the machine work. Viva las VISA!!! Whoo hoo... BTW, I am also having EBS ultrasonicly clean and pressure test my oil cooler... please keep your fingers crossed folks... |

My fingers are crossed, Leland. Your credit rating only suffers if you miss payments. Carrying debts gets you a higher credit rating. go figure. You can measure it by the junk mail. You must be tired of waiting, Leland. I'm tired of waiting. We're all in agony knowing you're out of the Saddle. We're dying over here, Leland. Tyson just shakes his head. We should take up a collection. Everybody send Leland $20. I'm kidding. Everyone send me $20.

Leland,
I could let you use my 3.9% (that is correct 3.9% APR) VISA. Unfortunately, my glacier-blue may need it for the upcoming top replacement/boot replacement and tranny work! And yes, the more you charge--the more credit they give you. Rack them up in case of super emergency. It is the American way. |

Hey Leland, can't you get your hands on one of the Pentagon-issued dredit dards? That should solve all your problems. Then you could expand the upgrade options.

Financial happiness is achieved by having people pay you interest, instead of the other way around. That said, the joy of a well running P car will never be understood by some people...and that is another form of happiness. Good luck, Leland...

That was a Navy thing ... besides, I think they suspend driving privileges while incarcerated in Leavenworth, KS.
Lee, One of these days ... you will find yourself with $13,500.00 limit on that card, and will laugh about the year of the rebuild! I would love to talk you out of this, but sounds as though you already did it. From experience, this is not the way to go. As an E-5 9+ years ago, my then-soon-to-be ex-wife decided to do one last parting shot. Get charge cards in her name right before the final papers, and spread around hot checks. Court papers said her problem, some showed on my credit report for years. The one that was mine took me five years and much struggle to get rid of, and it was smaller than your talking. My girl will sit about another four to six weeks waiting on parts, I don't like credit cards....
Oh, yeah, you do make more money out of the military, but it took awhile to find as good of a job (I got out in '92 under the Georgey Bush 100,000 plan). David '83 SC Targa |

Leland I was watching this post and not going to reply, BUT.... really I agree credit cards suck, and can lead you down the wrong path, but on the other hand as long as you use them RESPONSIBLY and pay them off as quickly as possible they are OK. The key of course is to pay them OFF not just the interest.

i am one of those people that believe that you should pay for everything out of cash in hand and not carry any debts. that way if you lose your job, you don't lose your method of getting around to look for another job. just make sure you pay it off quick! obin |

Leland,
I know how you feel. Try remodeling your house with little cash. Somethings just have to go on credit. In the end its worth it to drive you baby. For me its worth it so have some kitchen cabinets and flooring. But now that you've popped that credit cherry, just stay away from the supercharger thread. That kind of purchase on a card could get a person in pretty deep debt. ------------------ Paul 78SC Targa |

Thanks for the replies guys,
This is the battle that I have been fighting myself for a long time now... I have never really put anything on the card except my Secret Service suits a couple years ago. I too dislike credit cards... guess it stems from growing up with a crusty old fart of an Army Colonel as a father all my life. I have been making swipes $400-$500 a month. So I'm definately not just making minimum payments. I don't like having things held over my head. But,....SCREW IT! ![]() BTW, speaking of Secret Service...wish me luck, here shortly I will be submitting my application package. Before you know it, you all will have a Bomb Tech./Secret Service agent on this BBS! |

Leland - two part advice for you: Hazardous Duty Pay and TDY! When I was a wee Second Lieutenant, I had lots of credit card debt from college. To pay this off, I volunteered for TDY and Haz Duty Pay (you are EOD, right?) That extra money went to my credit cards, no where else. In only 1 year, I was DEBT FREE! Bank it for you P-car!
Of course that was during the day of REFORGER, Desert Storm and other wonderful missions that were out there. Make those $10,000 hammers count for something!! ------------------ Mark Howard '88 Carrera '62 356/B '75 914 1.8 resto |
