I'm a 40-year PCA member (this year), and I truly can't tell you if the whole deal was a waste of money, or if it was OK. There have been very good moments, and very disturbing moments. I've served on the board of directors for Los Angeles Region, written numerous technical articles for the club, earned my PCA Club Racing competition license, but never attended/entered a Parade. I've met some great people through the club, and I've won many trophies for competition events. I guess my time with PCA has been a bit like life; ups, downs, good, bad, with a pinch of BS thrown in.

i joined 10 yrs ago w/ my first Porsche. didn't participate a lot but did couple concours and went to few events. met some nice folks. it seemed if you didn't live your life around the club then some hard core members wanted nothing to do w/ you. some folks don't realize you have a life outside the club.i.e work and travel on business all the time. i am a hard core car guy but it isn't my life where it is for others. maybe one day when i retire i can be more involved. i continue to be a member primarily for the magazine / website as it is good source to locate parts and i can attend an event or 2 schedule permitting.

Yeah this goes back to my is Porsche a lifestyle for you comment. There's cool people and asses in everything but just because some bloke has a Porsche doesn't mean I feel like all my free time with them or give a rat's ass about their golf game.

Is there any common ground because people drive a car with the same badge on it? Is there any common ground between what I am doing with my 3.6 SC and what somebody is doing in their stock 997? Doubtful.

Again, I truly do feel like your experience or value of joining will be regional and for $40 why not try it a year, it's only $40.

i was a member of PCA for many years, mainly in the 90's. i got tired of the same articles in panorama and most of all, articles about the boars members and family going on trips, probably with my money. IE, i just was getting much out of it.
as for DE's, the last one i registered to do started out with my being flat on my back with a herniated disk the day before the event. i do understand a "no money back policy" but we are all suppose to be in the porsche "family", for lack of a better word, and i felt they should of been more understanding being that it was medical. just my feeling.

as for DE's, SCCA puts on DE's and a lot more often than the PCS was, at least around here.

with this FABULOUS forum, the articles in panorama could never match the knowledge here.

dont get me wrong, i am not angry with the PCA, its just not for me.

my advise would be to join and see for yourself. you may like it. or like me, you can just have friends with porsches that occasionally do things together.
