88 911 Carrera: ELECTRICAL problems
I have an 88 Carrera tub purchased for track use. The tub came with very little and was outside it appears for some time. Dismantling and exposure to the weather has played havoc on the electrical system especially the fuse panel in front and rear. I have cleaned it up the best I can and replaced the fuse bars (3). Here is the problem(s) 1. Since I am working toward a track car, what circuits/fuses can I do without (e.g. the cruise control, AC, security, etc...)? Some (cruise control) can just be removed but others appear intertwined. Should I just bundle them up and "store" them? Can I just remove all of them? 2. Once I have determined only the necessary circuity, how do I go about validating the circuit is correct? I don't want to wait until the car is fully together before making sure the electrical is ok-hooked up properly. 3. What do I do with the empty circuits in the fuse panel? Can I use them for something else--(e.g. auxiliary oil pumps, fans, etc...) 4. I know there are some slight differences between 87,88,89 models of the 911 Carrera. I have and 87 (parts car) and a running 89. What differences are there between the years and are they significant? Looking at the electrical diagrams or actual fuse panels offers little help for me.
