Show me rolled Fenders!
I've heard a lot about "rolling fenders" to make room for bigger wheels/tires, and how to do it, but I still don't know exactly what the difference is between a rolled fender and stock. Does someone have a pic of pre-rolling and post-rolling? Can someone explain in extra detail?
Thanks in advance, and pics are helpful! |

don't have any pics at the moment, but in a nut shell. mine were done
with the wheels on with a piece of round hard wood similar in diameter to a broom handle. starting at one side of the w/o with the wood between the fender lip and tyre you roll it along with the wheel while a couple of friends push the car for you,, sounds archaic but it works well. some guys will carefully use a hammer & dolly with the wheels off, but you need to be very carefull not to damage the paint.

Nice tool, but I used a baseball bat between the tire and the fender and just rolled the b!tches.
It's not hard. Just be careful.

If the room is limited between tire and fender just jack the car up and roll the bat inside the fender at an angle. Be carefull as the more pressure you put on the fender you can chip the paint. After you roll it a few times let some pressure off the jack to get more roll on your fender.
Good luck

Here's a pic that shows a non rolled stock fender. The right angle lip of the fender that is closest to the tire is rolled back towards the fender making a U or V shape giving the tire more clearance.

Here`s a few showing fully rolled R/S flares in the rear and stock fenders in the front . I used a wooden hammer handle before the car was painted . There is virtually no lip at all . Tire size in the 255/40/17 in the rear with a 9" rim , Fronts are 235/45/17 on a 8" rim . Clearances are maxed out and perfect . No rubbing .

kluacke,
I used a clothes rod and heat gun. Dont attempt to complete all at once. Patience is the key, heat metal - roll fender, repeat several times. I also enlisted some beef (200+lb brother in law and nephew) to bounce the bumpers as I rolled...YMMV... Good Luck Bob

The roll on my SC is limited to LF for a 7" Fuchs with 205-55 16. The amount of roll is limited to approximately a foot long section at the center top. The lip is turned up probably only 3/8" from a right angle. In other words you wouldn't notice it unless you looked very closely. Less is more. Do only what's necessary for the tire/wheel combo you use.
