hello, This is what I like to carry on trips,
1- spare fan belt (correct size and tools to change it) 2-fuses 3-relays 4-fuel filter 5-ignition CD box, (if you have a spare one) 6-set of tire plugs and air compressor 7-basic tools and test light 8-large trash bag, (in case you use your spare tire, place the removed tire in the bag and bring it inside the car) This should cover most of the issues you may encounter, P.S. In 36 years driving Porsches the only time I have been stranded was due to a failure of the Ign. cd box. Have a great trip,, Lou ![]() Last edited by aerodyn930; 10-07-2012 at 04:56 PM.. |

Confidence.
![]() She'll be ok. I can't believe how reliable these cars are. Don't get me wrong, I've got plenty to fix, but I've never been left standing. Drive it daily for a week before you go... That should work out the kinks. Good luck and have fun! -Dan

This question came up on another board. The best answer (IMHO) was:
A cell phone and a credit card.

I agree with MrJTP. As long as you are current on your regularly scheduled maintenance.

Duct tape
Electrical tape Sharp knife - on the road you can replace a broken alternator belt faster by cutting off AC belt rather than loosening the entire compressor. |

Check out post #84 to see Ron's list here. Of course, he knows how to use everything listed.
RoninLB To my thinking the most important spare to carry is a fan belt with the tools to change it. Lose a fan belt, and an air cooled 911 engine can overheat yesterday!

The clutch cable on my 73 broke in Telluride Colorado. Can't get those at NAPA. I'd bring one of those. +1 on the AAA premium membership.

In 1998 the wife and I planned on driving to the Porsche Parade from Houston to Steamboat Springs. I asked the shop owner what I should bring and his suggestion was a young woman. Hope it works for you.

My wife made her first road trip with me in a 50 year old 356 this weekend. I'd done 5 of over 1200-5,000 in the last 2 years and the worst was a blown generator pulley basically tearing itself apart. Now have spares for that.
We lost the speedo shortly after we left because the cable was one of the few moving parts I hadn't replaced. Had nav speed so no big deal. We did get cold coming home from Austin in early Oct. a pretty strange occurrence in Texas. And yes AAA 200 mile tow is reassuring.

Rescue tape Technical Data
Even if your rubber oil lines don't split or get ripped open by a rock , you might be able to save some attractive girl from a roadside meltdown. I actually have a roll of this onboard , though recently replaced the exposed oil lines as they were old and hard. When people say every bit of rubber needs replacing on these cars, they are right.

A friend to help you push-start! I had my starter overheat 350 miles in, and had to push-start and drive home to swap cars.
