Question Speedometer Cable

Possible to lubricate the speedometer cable without takeing it out of the car? My speedometer needle bounces from 0 - 30mph. I have a mechanical tach in my 1975 911.

Thanks
Eric

Eric,

Your old cable is probably 27+ years old by now ... and probably broken, too ... the bouncing is when the ends 'catch' every few revolutions! Best to replace it and do away with speedo cable worrries for a few more decades!

remove both seats, shifter, e/brake unit, rear tunnel cover, front pedal board, front trunk carpet and cardboard panel. take 2 valium and proceed. total PITA. hangs up on everything. i'd rather r+r an engine.

speedo cable

Eric, try taping the new cable to the old cable and then pulling out the old cable while it drags the new one into place. go slow.

John are you suggesting I should leave it alone? Take two valium and deal with the bouncing needle.

Thanks for the tips. they will come in handy this weekend. It's hard not to avoid a 90 degree day in Miami. However I have lots of ice cold Beck's.
