Engine install - Exhaust Clearence
Finally got to the point of installing my motor back in but I have a problem with the exhaust outlet not clearing the rear cut out.
Part of the drop was to install a set of SSIs and 2 in 1 out muffler. Both SSIs and muffler were used a Listeritz brand (sp), the SSIs installed with no issues everything lined up and the muffler bolted on with no problem but the outlet is too high and to the right preventing the engine cross bar to mate up with the motor mount. ![]() Any suggestions short of measuring, removing and rewelding the outlet? I also checked out the crossbar orientation and seems right, the flat end is on the bottom and the 90 degree bend is on top and facing rearward. TIA - Terry

Looks like you might have an early, pre 74 muffler, for the long nose cars.

I did a search on mufflers and it looks like maybe the outlet was modded or replaced as it exits 90 degrees out of the muffler not a slight curve down than outward as I've seen in some pics.
I found a pic of the muffler p/n before I installed it: ![]() Terry

Relatively easy to cut, modify, then reweld. Remove tailpipe, then install muffler onto engine. Drive to any careful muffler shop to fit and reweld. That's about 2x easier than with a 2 out muffler. Get references.
