Side mirror question
I've got a 87 911 cab, the black trim piece on my driver side rear view mirror is damaged and I would like to replace it. Anyone know if this is possible? The car is guards red and the mirror frame still looks good so I was hoping to avoid having to replace the entire mirror. I am sure I would have to remove the glass from the frame. After the glass is removed I was hoping I could just separate the black trim from the mirror, replace it with an undamaged trim and then replace the glass. Anyone have any experience or advise on how this could or could not be done. Also, how do you get the glass part of the mirror out? Lastly anyone have a donor mirror with an undamaged black trim available ?

Yes, you can change out the black 'ring' on the mirror, but it contains the adjustment mechanism. Available from Pelican for $335. Part # 911-731-027-06-OEM -J

That is $335 i would hate to spend.
The glass needs to be eased out carefully, if you bend the black rubber away just enough to look back in there (flashlight) you can see how the mirror has little posts that press fit down into the mirror support that adjusts. You have to go back and forth from corner to corner and gently pry it up. I upgraded to aero mirrors years ago and probably have the trim part you need. You can have it for $33.50. It came off my low mile '86 pictured. |
flag mirrors are cheap and i bet you can find a red one in the parts section. but any color will do
