Desperately need accurate windshield info!!

I need to replace my windshield, and want to go with the later model gasket that does away with the metal trim pieces. As I understand it, this was used on the '89-'94 model year cars.

My problem is I'm getting differing information regarding the windshield. I've been told by some that the windshield is the same (size-wise) from goodness knows when to '94, yet others have told me that the windshield on an '89-'94 car is different than that of my '78. I know there is an antenna integrated into the later model windshield, but I can't get confirmation whether or not the size of the glass differs.

Can anyone confirm any of this?

Thanks!!

I've had two windshields installed in my car already. We thought we might have to go to the later, internal antannae units but we did not. According to all I've heard, the new ones are the exact same shape and size as the old ones with no antannae. In fact, I have been told that the German units are not available without the antannae. So, it should work just fine.

BTW, I watched/helped with the latest windshield job on my car and I have some observations. first, I think I'd try to tackle this job now that I have seen how it happens. Second, I agree with a post I once saw that the aluminum trin (which you apparently will not be installing) shoudl be bent around the edges of the glass windshield before installing. This makes the trim fit properly, whereas there is an excellent chance it is the wrong shape unless you do this. The windshield, gasket and trim all go in as one piece using the rope method.

But to answer your question directly, it is my understanding that the early and late glass is interchangeable, at least as far as size and shape are concerned.
