Could I have damaged something?
I installed a new pair of seats into my 90 C4 last night. I accidentally mated the wires to the wrong pins - there were three wires: red, brown, and black. Red was constant 12 V, nad Black and brown both showed continuity with ground, so I assumed they were the same...
When I tried the 4 way switches, I heard a noise which sounded like the seat motor was working but it didn't move. I also noticed that my revers lights went on when I hit the switch! I quickly realized that the sound wasn't coming from the seat, but was the sound I hear when I turn my key to the accessory position - probably the fuel pump. Anyway, after hitting the switch a few times this noise stopped. I repinned the connectors and now the seats work (but the up down one only goes up which I assume is just that the switch is faulty, as this was the case on my previous seat). Could I have caused any damage to anything here? |

Hello
The black is never ground on Porsche ! BROWN is always ground or with color codes relatet to ground on german cars Black is mostly ignition OK on italian cars it is mostly vice versa ( brown is + ) Ther are coded connectors on the seats and wireloomsided too so you only connect them togehter. There is no way to mate them wrong. Thats as fool proof like coenction a PS2 socket on your computer ![]() As your old seat had the same problem something had been maybe mixed up before. It looks like you made a "backshoot". As far I remeber backshooting on that circuit runs into many circuits. I belive it will start ignition including the ABS/AWD circuit and run the power assist pump. This is to much load for the seat switch and it will burn the contacts Check for blown fuses and I will try to remeber that stuff or find a wire shematic. Grüsse |
