I have always thought the location of the rear view mirror glued to the front windsheild was too low on my car. This weekend while cleaning the window I hit the mirror and it fell off. I want to put it in the "proper" location. I think as high as possible is the best.
The current position is 5.75" when measured from the center of the round mounting plate to the bottom of the rubber seal on the top side of the window. This was measured from the outside of the car. ( I need to get a digital camera to describe these things.) Can anyone tell me where there mirror is located? BTW I have a 1978 911SC Targa. Thanks, ------------------ Tony '78 911SC |

Just make sure that the visors will clear the mirror. Mine is to high and I can't use the sun visiors because of it (not like my 6'3" frame would allow me to see with the visor down anyways). Otherwise put it anywhere it looks right (not in the glovebox, where the one off my truck is).

If you put the centerpoint of the plate 4.25" down from the seal lip, that should give you the proper position.

tbitz,
what are you going to use to glue it back on? Mine has fallen off during our brief spell of +100 degree temps. I had used super glue, but I guess I need to try something else. ------------------ Bill Krause '79 911SC Euro MY PELICAN GALLERY |

There are some rear-view mirror glues available at your local auto-part stores.

I have remounted the mirror at 2.5" below the bottom of the rubber seal lip. In this location it just clears the visors when they are pulled down.
Bill, I used a "rear view mirror" glue available from a local auto shop (Canadian Tire). Cost is $3.99 and works well. ------------------ Tony '78 911SC |
