I've located a LSD for my transmission. So I need to swap out my dif. How plausible is it that if I just use the same bearing shims of the old dif and the same spacer gasket for the intermediate plate that the lash will be OK?
Any sugestions for getting this done in South East Ma?

with a factory style ZF unit, what you propose works out fine. with a quaife, maybe yes, maybe no. later quaifes seem to be a direct bolt in, early ones had to be reshimmed. pinion shims stay the same, and other than a 914/901, the pinion, and the rest of the gears don't have to be removed.

Thanks. Another question. This is a 915 LSD. That carrier disc/pickup for the speedo mounts which way?

the disc goes toward the passenger side. a couple things on the 915 swap. the diff for the mechanical speedo trans is not cut for the magnetic disc, so, there's an early and late 915 posi. if you use a 7:31 R+P, a 2mm spacer is needed if you attach it to a late posi.
