speedometer gauge light
The upper gauge lamp on my speedometer is out. For good measure, I replaced all the gauge lamps. The upper lamp on the speedometer still does not work unless I pull the headlight switch out to illuminate the parking lights only. When I do this, the gauge lamp works. When I pull the switch all the way out, the upper lamp goes out. All the other gauge lamps remain on. Wondering if anyone could shed some light on this
confusion(sorry). Would there be any reason I couldn't splice the upper lamp to the wiring for the lower lamp? Chris J |
I'm not sure if we talk about the same thing, but if there is a symbol printed on the top of your speedo dial that looks something like this "=D" and the lamp is green, then this is normal. The lamp (I think your are talking about) indicates that the light switch is only pulled to the parking light position and not all the way.

I'll pull the gauge and check again. Thanks

cjanelli this is how mine work in my 82 SC as well

The upper lamp that should illuminate the gauge is the one that goes out when the light switch is pulled out completely. I'm going to check and see if the wires/bulb are in the right sockets. I suspect they were accidentally switched.

I think I understand now what you are talking about. Does the green light on the top of the dial stays always on when the lights are on? If that is the case, then someone switched wires.

Could be that the bulbs are in the wrong sockets. Try moving the bulbs to different sockets, that might solve your problem right there.
