Power window help needed!

I've been having some issues with a power door window since I bought the car 6 months ago. It's always been glacially slow, though better going up than down and the past few weeks it would stop halfway on the way down and I would have to help it to open all the way.
Today I pushed it down to help it from the half way point and it dropped immediately to the bottom of the door and wouldn't come back up.
Took the door card off when I got home and the window glass had come right out of the bottom channel.
Is it just a matter of getting the glass back into the channel in between the rubber?
Is it supposed to be glued into the rubber?
I also note that I can move the bottom channel horizontally.
Should it do that? If so how do I know it's correct position left to right when I insert the window back into the channel.
Any help gratefully received.
I have taken a couple of pics is it possible to post them here using my Pad I can't seem to be able to select them for upload.
The choose file button is faint so not an option.
Cheers
Bill

Hi just rebuilt my window mechanism on passenger side so can offer some help. Sounds like your window motor is shot to begin with, mine was always slow and I believe this to be an intentional design feature on the passenger side, anyway sounds like it needs changed and to do that you will need to do the following. Remove the 4 bolts holding the window regulator to the door, wiggle the regulator into a position where you can access the 3 bolts holding the motor to the regulator, sorry don't have pics but you will see what I mean on e your in there. Next disconnect power cable to be motor and it will come out. Next step is to wiggle the regulator assy out of the door, note this takes some patience and be careful it bites (ask me how I know). The reason the lower track is able to move horizontally now is because the window is not installed and for this reason the rail can now move as it is just held by the two rollers on the scissor lifting assy, so unless the glass is in the rail it will float. I had to replace the rail and rubber in my car and it takes some considerable force to get the window into he rubber all the way gene if you are replacing the motor you need to get the assy out I would say it would be impossible otherwise. I did not glue the window in the rail should be tight enough just sandwiched between the rubber.

Daviboy,
I as hoping to put this back together without replacing the motor just yet as it is at least still working though slowly.
Is it at all possible to get the window back into the channel without removing the regulator assembly?
Cheers
Bill

Bill you can try however to get the glass to fit tight against the nylon guide piece I found very difficult even with rail out. I put the rubber in the rail first then smeared some dish washing liquid along the bottom edge of the glass and pushed the rail on even then it required gentle tapping with a rubber mallet to seat l the way into the rubber. You can try it without removing but I don't hold out much hope of getting the glass reinstalled satisfactorily.

Bill,

To avoid this happening again you will need to remove the mechanism from the door and seat the glass back in correctly as it will simply pull away as it has done recently.

It is also possible that the rails on either side are too close together or the hex bolts securing them to the inner door have come loose(The door frame itself) The symptoms of which are the that it works fine one way and not very good the other way(ie: good up; Bad down and vice cersa)

I've had both mine out due to the same problem, trying to re seat them in the door just yielded the same problem again.....

* I also put new felts in the frame(s) which was a good idea and helped the window slide up and down better.

It is also easier to remove the mechanism with the frame removed(its not that hard!!)

I also replaced the felt and all seals while in there of course mine are Targa doors maybe a bit easier than coupe, I also completely stripped the quarter frames and repainted them and installed with all new seals and upper window stop.

Are these window motors rebuildable?
I heard of an auto electrician locally that put new brushes in one.

I might be wrong but if your window motor were to blame your window would come down faster than it goes up because of gravity helping a tired motor, in your case it's the other way around, so I'm pretty sure you can rule that out.

What's happening to you suggests that the window regulator has come loose. Maybe you should take this opportunity to take the regulator out, clean it and re-grease it. You can also bench test the window motor just to make sure. It's not that hard of a job, you just need to be patient and you'll figure it out.

Bill believe I read a post a while back about rewinding the motors use the search feature. I just replaced mine with a new one

Thanks for all of the good advice.
I searched for 4 years to buy a decent Carrera 3 then waited 3 months shipping it here from the UK and use it regularly so my immediate instinct was a quick fix ie. get the glass back into the channel ASAP so I didn't have any down time.
I will pull the motor and regulator and replace anything suspect.
I do know that you cannot take shortcuts when maintaining these amazing cars but my impatience gets the better of me sometimes?
Thanks again
Bill

You will also need a racheting 10 mm wrench unless you are into self-abuse.

Update!
Taking out the frame and window was very easy except for a rusted fastener at the bottom of the frame inside the door which had to be ground out.
My window had come out of the bottom channel so it was a simple matter of pushing the glass back into the channel which takes a fair bit of force and reinstallng everything with fresh grease. Job done so I thought.
A couple of days later the glass came out of the channel again.
Ok so I take the window out again and take a much closer look at the channel and rubber.
The channel has started to rust out at the bottom but enough remains for it to keep its shape. The rubber has started to perish and has softened a bit. I degreased the channel and rubber and tried glueing the glass in with contact glue and left it overnight to cure.
Next morning the glass came out of the channel while I was installing it.
I tried to buy a replacement rubber here but could only find some that was half the thickness so tried doubling it up. Thats in the car now and I hope it will hold at least until I can get a new channel and rubber from our host.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1353654543.jpg
