I don't know how much free time you have, but here's a couple of things you might consider:
Every Saturday from 4-8 or so, there's a great car show at the Pavillions shopping center in Scottsdale (at 101 and Indian Bend behind the McDonalds). Lots of hot rods, classics, customs, antiques, European... you just never know what will be there - we saw a McClaren F1 a few weeks ago. On Sunday a few of us Pelican types are joining the AZ Region PCA for a Sunday Drive to Prescott for lunch. Here's the details. |

I probably won't be able to make it up to the Pavillions this Saturday. My wife gets back from a trip Saturday and I already have Sunday reserved for the PCA drive. If she happens to be getting in late I may make it, but won't know until the last minute.
Do you have a contact number? |

Hey Rattlsnak,
Did you make it to the Pavillions? How was your visit otherwise?

The family unit will be in Sedona in August for a few days. Are there any car events going on about that time? What's the weather like that time of year? Any suggestions for family outings?
Thanks, Sherwood Lee http://members.rennlist.org/911pcars |

Sedona will be cooler than Phoenix, and that's all that matters. I don't know of any specific events, but the Pink Jeep Tours seem to be pretty popular.

If you can handle 110 during the day and 95 at night, Phoenix is a great place in August. It's a dry heat though...

Lee, I couldn't have set up this question more conveniently. Your Pink Tours sound neat. We'll consider it. Regards, Sherwood Lee http://members.rennlist.org/911pcars |

Sherwood,
Its hard to go wrong with Sedona, Prescott and Flagstaff. Any and all of them are nice, even nicer in summer. If you are interested in seeing some antique airplanes, let me know. Have a contact there restoring the 1930 MGM airplane that flew "Leo the Lion" around the states and so on in Prescott. Joe

Hi Joe,
Not sure what the spouse has planned or itinerary at this point. We trying to find out what's available. Don't have a map handy, but how far is Prescott from Sedona? If this is doable, I'd like to see the plane. Thanks, Sherwood |

Sherwood,
My gee whiz bang computer says 67 miles from Prescott to Sedona. Should take around 90 minutes to drive considering the roads and such. The condition of the roads is excellent but some of the sections are full of 20 mph curves (read: excellent for a 911) and very mountainous areas. One thing you need to remember is that this is in the middle of some of the most beautiful national forests in the country, and the fire danger is "extreme" now due to the lack of any rain for the last 4-6 months. We drove through some of the areas that had been burned in the last week and it sure looked sad. Keep an eye out on the news and make sure that the area is ok when you head out. We also saw several spots along the side of the road where someone had stopped, and the cat on the car caught the brush on fire, so pls be careful. Stay in touch and let me know when you are heading that direction and will get you in touch with the restoration people. Joe
