Who is the best, have a set of 4 15x6 from my 72 that need to be restored. Any idea on price?

Yep. Can't beat Harvey Weidman.

Nickshu 10-25-2012 04:57 PM

What's the ballpark cost to refinish 4 Fuchs?

cobra935o 10-25-2012 05:40 PM

It must be an obscene word, no one ever posts costs, hehe, I was quoted $840 to have them done here in Atlanta, but I dont have any confidence that they would be done right, and that seems like a stupid high price.

FastCarFan 10-25-2012 06:45 PM

Yep, Harvey. When you are talking to other shops ask if they anodize the rims like they came from the factory. Ask if they use the correct satin paint if you are painting the centers black (far too many are incorrect glossy black). Ask if Porsche sends wheels to them to be refinished. Ask how long they have been doing it. Ask if they leave the lug holes unpainted as they came from the factory. Ask if they will take as much time as you want talking on thew phone about Fuchs wheels, proper refinishing, etc.

Harvey is the man. I shipped my wheels from OH to CA for Harvey to refinish them. They are perfect.

I thought Al Reed was the man? Never had my Fuchs done but have been thinking about it. Who has a better price?

+1 I think this is a legitimate question for Keith and Mikey to ask.

What is the "typical" price of refinishing 4 fuchs?

McLovin 10-26-2012 09:59 AM

I've used all of the "big name" wheel refinishers over the past 25 years.

Harvey is the best.

kugelfischer 10-26-2012 10:04 AM

+1 on Harvey! He restores every wheel to concourse spec. What you receive will be PERFECT in the end. He not only re-anodizes & paints the wheels, but will check them to ensure they are within spec for roundness etc.

I would never go with a typical wheel polisher. These finishes are never going to be as durable as an anodized finish.

Why are we not mentioning price? I'd call Harvey and ask him yourself. I believe that a straight up resto w/o any repairs to the wheels will be in the neighborhood of $250/wheel.
Don't quote me on this though and give him a call yourself.

McLovin 10-26-2012 10:11 AM

I've had, and personally seen, very "mixed" quality results from all the others. Sometimes very good, other times . . not so good.

Harvey is the only one that I've seen perfection from each time.

Racerbvd 10-26-2012 10:24 AM

+100 on Harvey, and as others have said, he is the only one who can properly anodize Fuchs (I spent a lot of time looking and checking with Porsche rim experts) before sending my rims. Cost, 14" Fuchs, for 914-6, $1,800+shipping and a long wait, so now you have a ball park figure, as the rims for the Turbo "S", also fully restored back to as new, was also $1,800.

bike2ride95 10-26-2012 12:04 PM

If you don't know Harvey Weidman or heard of him, you havn't been a Porsche
owner long enough. :D
No disrespect :)

bill romero 10-26-2012 08:59 PM

both Harvey & Al do great work. No one is better than the other. Both provide very high quality restorations. I use Al because he's cheaper & my friend... You can't go wrong with either. Good luck.
