standard shop time for engine/tranny removal???

what is the standard shop time for a professional wrench to drop and re-install engine/tranny? my wrench charges $90/hr. please exclude parts (oil, tranny fluid, etc). i need to explain to the wife why i will not be spending some "quality time" with her due to the amount of money i will be saving (and learning about my favorite toy). tia.

Hi there,

I may be way off, but I think the job is like 7 to 8 hours all together without the other "stuff"?

ciao,

Save the money and do it yourself, assuming you have the space and tools.

We just dropped and re-installed Richard LeSchander's engine/tranny (see post's by Marcesq for pictures) and had a blast! Yes it will take you longer than a shop to do but you will save money and learn about your car.

As the Mastercard commercial says, "... priceless."

yes, i will be doing the engine/tranny drop with the aid of wayne's book, my dad, neighbor, and plenty of pots of coffee. the tranny will be sent out to be rebuilt which is the whole reason for the drop. i've never changed the oil in my car in the 2 years i've owned it (don't worry the oil has been changed on numerous occassions - chain tensioner update, etc.) but darn it i am going to drop the engine.
i'm sure i will have plenty of questions accompanied by a whole-lotta head scratching but i will be motivated by the money i will be saving and the satisfaction of doing it myself. the money saved will go towards seats plus a touch-up respray.
everyone's welcomed to drop by. it will happen on june 22nd in good ol' antioch, CA.
