Evo Magazine - 911 Heaven Test

the 3.0 SC rates higher(5 out of 5 stars) than a 3.2 Carrera!(4stars)

Haven't read the article but betting it's because the 3.0 is easier to modify and mostly bulletproof. They are both pretty good.

3.0 SC head studs have something to say about being bulletproof..

No worse than 3.2 rod bolts.

I just read that.

When I bought my car everyone advised me to get a 3.2 with a G50, but I think much of that advice goes back almost 10 years or more now.

When I started my search I kept coming across recent age and mileage related problems with 3.2 cars. Problems that might not have been common when people began advising on 3.2 cars over others many years ago.

I don't think they are bad, but what I found typical of a less than average 3.2 now days included accounts of :

-DME no-start issues
-valve guides
-complex and expensive g50 rebuilds (compared to 915)
-deteriorating wiring looms and intermittent connectors

I'm not sure how an SC is in comparison as they age, but 3.2s are getting old and bulletproof G50s are starting to need some attention from what I gather.

I wonder if these more recent factors are equalizers between the two models?

15-25 years from new every car develops its own personality to I dont think these comparisons are anything other than entertainment. Both cars had different mods, service history, tires, etc.

Good points. I'd offer the lower purchase price of an SC making the inevitable foibles and expenses easier to accept... I don't mind a little oil leaking from my $13K SC, but a $20K Carrera doing the same might bother me.

Nice to see the 964 getting such good praise from the Evo crew!
It's such an awesome 911!

They're all great, that's why we're here. Let's not quarrel over which is "better than another" and just enjoy the character of our personal vehicles.

Cheers,

A little friendly quarreling passes the time during the coming cold winter months. But I agree that its not really necessary when SC's are clearly superior in overall experience.

(My car came with a 911SCWDP sticker from founding member Leland, PPO.)
