997 tire road noise

I was driving home today and had the windows open, doing about 60 mph.

This pretty boy pulls along side and makes sure that we make eye contact, after all he is in a 997.

Anyway, the 997 sounded like a truck with lug tires. The road noise was incredible.

i have never heard tire noise this loud from a 911 like this before. I would think that it would be very annoying, especially in a car that expensive.

What gives?

If they were Hankook I would not be surprised.

Maybe the 997 owner was not a "pretty boy" forcing eye contact looking for an acknowledgment of superiority. Maybe he was just looking for Porsche camaraderie and giving you kodo's to your appreciating air-cooled investment. Maybe envies you for your lack of a $1,200 monthly lease payment.

I had Yoko tires which were very noisy, I recently installed B.F. Goodrich G-Force Sports. The BFG are a ton quieter. They don't have the grip that the Yoko's had, but the noise level is half as loud. Again for our 16" wheels the options are few when you're looking at staggered wheel and tire sizes.

The get louder as the tires wear. I just replaced the rears on my 997 4S and it rides MUCH quieter.

I was driving my DD not the P car.

Believe me, this guy was a typical pretty boy who was begging for attention.

The noise was pretty ridiculous, it really sounded like he had off road tires on.

Runflats? They can be very noisy. Rode in a friends BMW with runflats and the road noise was insane.

Hey, since the 991 came out I stopped plucking my eyebrows and shaving my chest. Now when I take the 997tt out, it's baseball cap real low and sunglasses. Next time you see "pretty boy" be sure to point out the inferiority of his 997

I truly am not a judgmental person. I guess it's one of those things you had to see for yourself.

If any of you would have seen this guy you probably would have shaked your head in disbelief at how obviously impressed he was with himself.

My "pretty boy" remark was directed at his very apparent attitude not the fact that the car was a 997.

I was amazed at the amount of noise coming from the tires, that was the thrust of the post.

I guess I'll have to be more PC, nah that will never happen.

I apologize if I offended anyone with my remark. But, you pretty boys know who you are

It's all about image isn't it?

The Conti's on my daily driver BMW Z4M are getting pretty loud and they're toward the end of their life. Could be that.

I have a 997.1 turbo with Michelin PS2's. I hear a lot of road noise on the inside and not much engine noise. If I roll the window down, I hear the "whoosh" of the side intakes, which is ok, but I love, love, LOVE the sound in my '84 Cab when I run up the rpm's. There may be road noise from the tires, but I am deaf to it when the 3.2 winds it up!
