Help Locating a Piece Under the Dash

Trying to resolve heating problems in my 84 911.

Found a good source of information from rennlist (911 Auto Heat)

I'm trying to locate the 'actuator rod' under the console. The previous owner did a pretty rough job putting in an aftermarket headunit, so I'm not sure if that's why it's not obvious to find this piece? I've been looking under the dash for a half hour, but before I start just randomly removing panels, I wanted to seek advice here.

If any can point me in the right direction for hunting this actuator rod down... I'd appreciate it.

The main blower is working.
Check actuator rod in console. The ends might be broken. Very, very common.
Open door on passenger side of console. Inside a metal rod connects the servo motor with the heat lever. The plastic ends on this rod often break due to the surprising stiffness of the lever. The ends are easily replaced but hard to access. Some guys have managed this fix without removing the passenger seat but it sure makes it easier. Make sure you dial it in for the right length. I believe the actuator rod referred to in your quote is located in the console between the seats, it is attached to the autoheat mechanism under the blower control dial.

You need to be looking in the heat control box between the seats.

Your auto-heat is located within your "console", not under your dash. The console is the piece between your seats that has the auto heat controls on it. Follow your shifter south...

Oops...looks like two others beat me to it. Nonetheless, you know where to look now.

First time on PP after I bought my 84 911, was an autoheat , no heat issue. I'm studying the wiring diagram thinking I'm effed. I did a search and the first thing that popped up was that the plastic cup can pop off the socket in the center console. I thought no schit. I pulled the cover and sure enough that was the problem. Right then I knew PP was a good thing.

After checking out pictures I'm starting to wonder if the plastic bits on the actuator rod are broken or not. Both sockets on the ends seem in OK shape. Maybe worn out? They don't seem cracked?

Thoughts? Perhaps it just needs adjustment on the rod itself?
