removing flares to go back to narrow
 

we bought a car from a relative who added steel flares to a 72.
What is required to return it to the original narrow body?
i looked for body panels and could only find an entire quarter panel, that does not seem sensible,, are there replacement wheel arches to return it to original?

Ever think about just selling ? and buy what you want '

There are probably plenty of people that have flared their cars who have the narrow body wheel arches sitting around. I dont know of anybody that makes the wheel arches but I'm sure you can get some used ones. I bought entire quarter panels to replace my flares but there wasn't much left on my quarters to work with.

Having added steel flares to my car, although not intuitive, I think that replacing the entire 1/4 is more sensible in order to go back. (especially if you are going back for collectibility rather than hot rodding).

Find some threads to see where the 1/4s join. Just one short straight weld on the outer body between the side window and engine compartment, and a number of less disruptive spot welds in hidden locations (inside door and deck lid).

If you re-flare, you are working on a very complex curve that has already been disturbed once. You may be spending much more time and adding more filler than you would like, particularly if it was a poor job to begin with.

Thats my take on it but others may have better advice.

car is at a relatives in SC we will have it next week.

Yes that's it. You are better off with the rear quarters and new front fenders. Otherwise, it is a difficult transition.

The black panel is a replacement 1/4 panel (probably fibreglass in this example, but you get the idea).

I think the panel #36 that you referred to is jus the front portion of this panel
