Is it the same fan?

Does anyone know if the front a/c condensor fan on my 1984 911 is the same part number as the one that burned up on my 1986 930?

Sure would make things easier and they look the same (other than the heap of burned and melted plastic in the 930 that used to be it).

The condenser blower shows up as the same PN for the 86 and 89 in the PET, but I don't know about the 84 or Turbo.

If someone knows if the 86 PET applies to the 84, and if the Turbo uses the same, you should be good.

on edit, according to our host, for the motor (only) 0-130-007-081-M14, it is shown as applying to both MYs. As long as the housing form factor is the same, you should be good.

Thanks, Dan,I'll try swapping them (with a fuse of course).

It's a fan...
Does it fit?
Use it... :)

The change is in the bigger center lump in the smugglers box cover.

OP said condenser fan. Assuming condenser up front behind the bumper next to the spare and jack. There are two (actually three) different. Behr fans for the condenser. Third is really early and I've only seen in PET.

Second two seem interchangeable. Earlier SCs had a metal case and the plastic snorkel that feeds through the bulkhead is a separate piece. Later Behr fan was all plastic with the snorkel section molded in. IIRC the later two are interchangeable. Same hole in floor and front bulkhead.

Evaps changed as well. IIRC 85 is the change over. I know 84 down are one way and 86 up another but I can't remember which way the 85 falls.

Correct, I just deleted my post.

The pet does not list the front condenser fan motor as a separate item.

I think the front condenser fan is sold as an assy.

Both evaporator and condenser fan motors are available from our host.

Also, I was advised that the evaporator blower motor
is also compatible with the front condenser blower motor.

Several condenser motors are listed on eBay.

I bought my 86 this spring with a burned up condenser blower motor so I've spent way too much time on it. I found full assemblies new for a little less than $300. I found the motor separate for as little as $60. Never been able to find the fan (squirrel cage) though. I think you are right on the early evap motor swapping over. Late one like in my 86 will not. It's significantly larger. Footwell blower motors will fit (I did this for a short time) but they spin much faster and make a lot of noise.

Seems these burn up a lot so anyone who is in there needs to take the time and install a fuse.

J, you can have the burned up one from my 86 930. I caught it quick and only the plastic housing is melted. If you only want the squirrel cage, its fine.

1988 also?

I have been reading about this fan fire with much interest. Should I be concerned about the one in my 1988 Carrera. I replaced it with a new complete fan unit 4 months ago. the same one shown as a "Toasty" in the previous photo in this thread. I can't find a fuse on the panel that says blower motor or anything like it.
If so does anyone know if the fused harness kit for the 1986 by our hosts would also work on my 1988 911 Carrera.
Last thing I need is another concern.
Thanks to all.

Don,

The fuse kit will work for any A/C equipped 911.

You should already have the fuse kit I posted.

Look for it near the battery.

I'm told it was a mid year addition for the '86 911 production, and future 911 production.

However, I would certainly fuse the dash lights as per one of my previous post,
and install a fused A/C evaporator relay. (P/N 911-615-103-M206).

pm me as needed.

Good luck,

Gerry

My car is a 1988 Carrera but it does not seem to have a fused blower motor (see photo)
also there is half a plug just hanging above it with a tan wire and yellow/black wire attached but no corrosponding other half to plug it into, just like in Gerry's earlier photo. What's up with that?
There is what I believe to be a relay of some kind with a single sheet metal screw attaching it to the interior just above and behind the plastic fan housing. Is this the mentioned fused a/c evaporator relay mentioned earlier?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1351646043.jpg

JAR0023 10-30-2012 06:42 PM

Don - The A/C evap relay you referenced is in the smuggler's box. I just looked at my 86 and perused my Bentley manual wiring diagrams looking for your yellow/black and brown combo. This is a WAG at best, but I think those wires are for the headlamp washers. The relay sized box you see, is, I believe the control unit for the headlamp washers. Again, a guess on my part.

Do you have headlamp washers? Have you tested them?

Don LaVance 10-30-2012 06:56 PM

I have no headlight washers but do haven windshield washers . So I guess the plug could be just in case I ever add them???
I received my Bentley book today from our Hosts and will make myself familier with that section.
Thanks,
Don

JAR0023 10-30-2012 07:08 PM

Don, makes sense to me. Porsche would use the same wiring harness whether you had headlight washers or not. Mostly a guess on my part but the only yellow with black trace I can find in Bentley is the headlamp washers and the engine compartment blower. You are about as far away from the engine compartment blower as one can get. :) - J

The headlamp washers were standard on our '86.

However, not sure if that continued onto the '87+ model years.

Never used ours.

Here is a pic from our factory manual which supports your findings.
