Basic heater controls question...
Just when I thought I had the heater controls all figured out.....
I realized tonight when I pull up on the two red heater levers between the seats, it turns on the engine compartment blower. I thought they turned on the footwell blowers. So what does the knob between my seats turn on then? Does it turn on the footwell blowers? |
The red levers will turn on the engine blower. I believe the foot well blowers turn on with the switch on the console between the seats. Things vary by year and if auto heat or not. Check your owners manual to be sure.

On my '87 with manual heat the red levers turn on both the engine and the footwell blowers. The knob on the console between the seats controls the footwell blower speed from off (0) to high(3).

Your Red Levers control the engine bay Blower and Foot Well blowers
The center dial controls the volume at the foot well blowers. The levers at the dash control direction of flow Foot + sides vents or DEFROST ONLY or mix of both. |
Draco nailed it,..the levers control both!

Ah ha, thanks for clearing that up.... I was all set to yank out the engine compartment blower because I thought the center knob turned it on only... good thing I checked first because I like the amount of heat it pumps out as is when I only pull up the levers. I just didn't know the red levers turn that fan on too. The center knob doesn't really seem to do a whole lot other than making more noise. The airflow doesn't increase that much more.
