Okay... before you East Coasters and Mid-Westerners start telling me that you guys have it worse when it comes to weather just remember that this thread is all tongue-in-cheek. Just alittle fun with reality. With that said....
We just had a huge wind and rain storm out here in San Francisco. We had wind gusts up to and over 70mph here in The City. This is something that is just too uncommon for us West Coasters. I was on duty, (SF Fire) when the storm hit at just around 7pm. Winds torn through the western part of town blowing over scaffolding and trees and even the newspaper stands. It was a huge mess. Gutters were even over flowing with rain water. I snapped a few pics for you to see the horrible destruction. And since this is a Porsche Forum I included my car in the pics. This first pic is of the Pacific Cafe which just happens to serve some of the best seafood in The City! Highly recommended dining. Anyway, the scaffolding blew over on some powerloines which energized the mess. People were trapped in the restaurant while we had to wait for the power to be shut off. Wine on the house! Enjoy! .....and just ten blocks away we had another crisis. Another apartment building with scaffolding ready to blow over. The plastic sheets make great wind catchers. Oh yeah... thats my '85 Cabriolet again. Gosh... I love that car.
If you look at the pic you will notice a VW Jetta underneath the scaffolding. Well, look closer and you may see that there is a plank of wood on the trunk holding up the mess. Hmmm... how did that get there? ![]() These pics are all shot from my fire district in the Richmond Dist of S.F. Calspeed |

And the flooding.......! It was horrible! Look at all of the leaves on the street. It makes for slippery driving conditions.

thanks for the pics. I lived at 19th and Cabrillo in the Richmond back in '94. I moved up from LA right after the Northridge quake (in fact, my truck was packed and I was supposed to leave Monday morning. An hour before I was to hit the road mother nature provided her own wakeup call). My first month in SF turned out to be one of the wettest on records...it rained 29 out of 31 days.
I still miss the food. New Eritrea and Mihn Tri in the inner Sunset. Khan Toke in the Richmond. mmmmm |

Ahhhh, Khan Toke. Mmmmmmm. Great food! I love that place! I eat there every week. Remember on Sunday evenings when the girls would sing and dance. In the late '80's I dated "Julie" who was a waitress there. calspeed, how come you didn't take a pic of the 6 story scaffolding that lost the top two sections and landed on top of 4 cars. Crushing two of the cars to about 3 feet in heighth. Pacific and Fillmore. Nostatic If you would like me to FEDEX a Khan Toke dinner to you let me know! |

There were alot of pics to take but I just did my district. Except for the pic of the rain gutter in the Marina.
I worked a 24 hour shift with zero sleep that night. I just wanted to get out of there and get a cup of coffee. As for the restaurant Khan Toke just two blocks from my firehouse... they do have some of the best Thai food in The City. Btw... you still have to remove your shoes when you go in the restaurant. Cal,
Those photos were pretty scary. If it makes you feel any better in L.A. we got it just as bad -- it's been raining for, and I'm not kidding, 3 days straight days. Be careful out there. Pete 86 Coupe |

I saw this guy out on the street selling this cool invention to protect you from the rain. He called it an umbrella. I'd never seen one before.
Kidding aside. I used to live in Houston. I even owned an umbrella when I lived there as did everyone. Been living in Los Angeles for 15+ years and still don't own one. I remember one of those floods when I lived in the Montrose area. The 59 was like a huge canal. There were a couple of car rooftops peeking out and one lone VW bug floating downstream. Kid you not. Talk about driving carefully in the rain. My cousin just got an SC and can't wait to drive it around. Unfamiliar with 911 and bad tires, I seriously told him be very careful out there. First entry ramp on 10, the rear stepped out as he accelerated. He countersteered, the rear swung to the other side. 4 swings after, it finally settled. He almost wetted his pant and now he knows what I mean.

I use to live on 36th and geary, Couple blocks from Pacific cafe. I now live in mill valley, in a place called windy gap. My porsche is outside all the time. Came home from work. Cover was ripped off car. Winds were close to 80mph. I live under 100 yr old cypress trees. Parked saab behind porsche. Lights went out in house, went outside, heard limbs cracking. Ran back inside, branch came down and put a football size dent in roof of saab. Frantically moved car accross st. Was able to get reminents of cover off porsche, hook up battery , plug ignition wire back into dizzy, start car and move accross st. Came back to driveway, 25 foot limb was right where porsche was along with 3 other limbs that came down with it. Road was now blocked. Talk about stress. At least tobluforu is ok. Hopefully home owners insurance will fix dent. Somehow I doubt it though. Something to do with acts of mother nature.

No, because in SF, they can only go in the back door...
