r-12 alternative
 

i recently purchased my first porche, a 1987 carrera targa. the PO told me that he had not recharged the a/c in almost three years...it needed a charge and he didn't want to pay the cost for r-12 or the retrofit. so, he went without. i checked the pressure in the system and it was still holding a charge of 5psi and the compressor still engaged so i was hoping that all it needed was a recharge. i went to www.freeze12.com and ordered there re-charge kit for $80.00 and it arrived yesterday. i put two cans in and the a/c was ICE COLD! i checked the epa web site and this product, freeze12, is an approved alternative to r-12.

I was able to order this product without any 609 certificate, however, i just found out that it is supposed to be required. i guess this paticuliar company is not checking if you actually have one. i took an online course ($15.00) and recieved my 609 certificate so now i can go to any auto part store and buy cans of r-12 or any alternative right over the counter.

just thought i would share since this is much cheaper that retrofitting. the cans can be purchased for $6.00 a can...not bad.
