71 Targa - Heat Exhaust Rattle
First the good news: Finally starting to feel better after back surgery and crawled under the car to replace my speedo cable. My speedo, odo work! Haven't worked since I bought the car in April!! Much easier job than I anticipated. Happy day!
When I accelerate hard I get a rattle coming from the exhaust almost like metal flapping. I have a smallish hole in the bottom of one heat exchanger, could this cause the rattle? Otherwise they look OK. It doesn't happen if I accelerate slowly and build speed rather than giving it full throttle. Ideas besides hanging off the back bumper with roller skates while my wife drives? ![]()

Check the exchangers for any rust where it could possibly split. That could cause a rattle. Hope this helps. I had a set of exchangers that rotted where the exhaust pipe comes out and it was causing some noise. Good luck.
