I need to know how much gas still in tank when the orange light turns on.

I remember the owner's manual (my 81) stating how much gas is supposed to be in reserve. Believe it around a gallon and a half. 6 liters.

Believe the 964 increased to 10 liters reserve. Double check owners manual if you have one.

Based on Peter Morgan's book the 84 has a 21.14 gallon tank and the 85 increased to 22.46. Don't know if that held through to 87 like chrisbruck's car.

I have tried to determine how many miles per quarter tank my car will consume on a trip and from what I can gather it's reasonably accurate - not counting the swings going up and down hills. My low fuel indicator come on just a tiny bit above the bottom line.

If your tank is 21.14 gallons (and not dented), fill it up right when the light comes on and do the math as chrisbruck suggests. Next tankful take it to the empty mark and fill up. Some will say not to take it that low given the higher concentration of crud but it never stopped me - yet :-). Then you have an idea of your true reserve capacity.

Your empty tank takes 21.14 gallons.

It is not possible to tell you exactly how much petrol is remaining because the gauge is subject to error.

Look at the last paragraph in my first post and perform that test.
