Need help with a paint code from '74 or '75

Can anyone with the factory manuals help me identify a paint code? It should be from '74 or '75. The code is:

264-9-3

It should be some sort of metallic green. I was always told the paint name was "signal green", but would like to know for sure.

"Viper Green Metallic"--nice name. How strange that it would be a 1976 color, though. The car is a '74 or '75 Carrera (there's a long story as to why I don't know the year for sure). Is it possible they could have started using the paint code earlier than it states in the manuals?

At least thats what my Porsche Workshop Manual Volume VI, assembly group 8,9 has it listed as..

What is the manufacture date of your car? This paint code was used by Porsche starting with J series cars produced from August 1975 to July 1976 and K series cars produced from August 1976 to July 1977.

I just corrected the entry -- it's Viper Green Diamond, a clear-coated metallic shade!

The copyright date is 1975 on the manual page, so I suppose it could have been used on late '75 models ... many times paints have been used when old supplies were exhausted and new 'stock' was present and available ... not necessarily coinciding with a production year changeover. The gold metallic shade used in 1971/72 is one example.

Unfortunately, the history of the car in question is unclear and I don't know the true manufacture date of the car. It was apparently one that was imported from Germany and had the VIN plate from a '69S affixed to it such that it could be registered in the US. My title matches the '69 VIN. However, the car is not a '69. It's almost certainly a '74 or '75 factory Carrera. I found 1974 dates in crayon inside the doors, and it has a hand throttle and other features which narrow the possible years.

BTW, I also have the number the factory writes under the dash in crayon and that may tell me much more. Anyone have an idea what to do with that number to get more information? It's not the VIN.

Do you have an engine serial number? That might help to narrow down the manufacture date.

Nah, the engine was a 3.0L from an '81 SC, so no help there. I do have a few pictures of the car before we took it apart, if anyone's interested in the color.

Zuff,

The engine type number and serial would help, as would the transaxle serial number and type number. If a European Carrera 2.7 it would have an MFI engine type 911/83 and all black trim, and 7300 rpm redlined tach. and 915/08 trans with oil cooler.

The car came with a 3.0L engine from an '81 SC, so the engine numbers won't be of any help. I don't know if the transmission number would help, but it is a magnesium case 915 so I suppose it might be the original transmission. The car does have all black trim and the 7300RPM tach. Also, several knowledgeable people examined the flares and agreed they were factory, thus my opinion that the car is a '74 or '75 Carrera. I also just posted a new thread with a picture of the "hidden VIN"--maybe that number will reveal some useful information.
