replacing heads

Ok., heres a question for you PROfessionals. Is it possible to replace the heads on a 2.7 while the engine is still in the car.

Why would you want to do that???

Well, I'm really not sure. found some on ebay and thought I could rebuild them and install them. I'm new to the porsche world, still learning. :D

The 911 engine is an incredibly precise stack up of very high quality, very high precision "layers", assembled to very close tolerances.
I personally would only attempt to make this sandwich on an engine stand.
Other minds may differ, but I would be pretty surprised if I am in the minority here...

just replacing heads on a 2.7 is a pipe dream. not that it can't be done without getting into lots of other things, but usually the cylinder tops are pounded out of true because of loose heads, the cylinder bases on the case are pounded, and not on the same plane, head studs pull when you retorque the heads, etc. most 2.7 engines require a complete rebuild to be worthwhile. yes, the engine has to come out, and be put on a stand.

Maybe we just found the next reality TV show: Who can do what to a P-Car engine while it is still in the car ???
