Removing e-brake, heater box, speedometer, clutch cables from the tunnel
Hi,
I am stripping a 1971 for blasting and repaint. On all the previous cars I've just cut these out of the way, but I am trying to preserve al the fittings, sheathing and cables this time. Its not readily apparent to me how these cables are removed intact. Those aluminum collars on the heater box cables looked crimped on, do they have to be cut off? Are the e-brake cables disconnected from the handle and pulled out the back, or are they pulled forward into the tunnel? I seem to recall the throttle rod can be disconnected from the pedal linkage and pulled back out the rear of the tunnel? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1352614125.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1352614417.jpg My 1983SC manual wasnt any help... Any tips to help speed up disassembly would be greatly appreciated! |
Channel locks on the heater cable crimped alloy fitting will work them loose. The solid core heater wire inner pulls out through the handbrake opening, its a single piece looped at the heater handle. The speedometer cable outer pulls out once freed at the front. The E brake cable also pulls out via the handbrake opening and the outers pull away from the bulkhead. The throttle rod pulls out the rear once unclipped at the front. Brake lines, never changed those. Fuel line, pull it out rearward, I left a draw wire in place to pull in the new one, the same might be sensible for the speedo outer.
