915 Detent Bolts Removal
I am having a bunch of items zinc plated and thought I would throw in the detent bolts from my 915 transmission into the box of parts (transmission it out and fluid is drained).
Before taking them out, I wanted to make sure that I would not disturb any gearbox internals by releasing the tension on the springs under the bolts, preventing me from being able to simply bolt them back in. I've read that many times the case threads for these bolts are stripped due to the short bolt and soft case (magnesium in my case), so I will be very careful on the torque specs when re-installing.

No problem but don't let the spring and detent fall out. If you remove them, they are both identical so it doesn't matter which hole they go back in. I use a small round magnet tool to pull them out.

Thanks for the responses.
Quick question, I have an SC Bentley manual that states the torque on the 'Detent plug" is 12 ft-lb. Since the Bentley manual for an SC, I assume the repairs in the transmission section are in reference to an aluminum 915. Is the torque less for a magnesium 915?
