Post fuel guage?

the fuel guage i have reads from top left(empty) to top right (full), and at the bottom of the guage there is a light, what is this light for? thanks in advance

"What is this light for?" Uh Fred, it's saying..get gas now! Forget the gallonage left when it burns steady, but it isn't much. Under two, I think. I sort of ignored it once. Ran out 6 miles from the nearest fill up.

ok if thats what its for then i feel like a real dumb ass now. all my guages were messed up when i bought the car and this light has never come on,and ive had the fuel level almost empty on a few ocassions. thought maybe it was for aternator/low battery warning light.

Hi Fred, its pretty easy to pull the fuel tank sender unit from the top of tank, 5 screws I think.

Lift the unit from the tank with the gauge energized, see if the empty light activates as you lift the sender unit, simulating an empty tank.
