Gearbox problems due to Wevo shifter + PSJ ???
Hi mates,
Has someone ever heard about gearboxes problems , when a Wevo system is mounted ??? Some guys here think that the total elimination of the free-play can use the synchromesh. Any negative feedback for a gearbox issue after installing the Wevo set ??? I precise that i've the Wevo shifter + PSJ without problem until now , but a bit afraid by that i heard. I would like to read your opinions please , Cheers. |
Mine is great with no isuues so far after one track season. I love it.

I think the WEVO components can enable a driver to for the 915 to shift quicker than it would like. I think as long as you use a "2 stage" shift action, you will have to problems.

Hi guys,
If any of you use a wevo PSJ, please report the miles you did since it is mounted on your car and any gearbox nose or problems if you did get. Thanks |
10,000+ miles with no problems. My synchros were in bad shape when I installed the Wevo vintage shifter and perf coupler and the Wevo parts helped hugely. Make sure your tranny and motor mounts are good. Worn mounts allows the motor/tranny to have slop and move around.

WooooOOOOoooohhhhh , these answers have reassurated me.
10000 miles without problems , synchros in bad shape , and that helps !!! Cool , thanks mates. Others inputs ??? |
You would advice me to mount Wevo "semi-solid mount" ???

I have the Wevo shifter and PSJ on my race car. There is no reason that they would be harder on the syncro's. They do make noise on my car however. The reason they make noise is because they don't have a "gate" holding the shifter in the 1-2 or 5-R plane of motion. The springs put rotational pressure on the shift rod when in those gears. This rotational pressure causes the shift forks to ride against the shift rings in the transmission. You get a rigid connection from the spinning shift rings to the shifter and so you hear the noise from the transmission. I don't worry about wear, but the noise would be annoying in my street car. The fix to this would be to use the internal gate set-up that Wevo sells.

It's clear Eagledriver.
But the Wevo gate set is very expensive , and you must add the cost of mounting it . Anyway , if guys driving on the tracks have no problems , there is no reason of been worried. Thanks ya, i appreciate. |

My Take
I installed a Wevo shifter and PSJ, in addition to Wevo motor mounts and poly trans mounts. Transformed the shifting fron extremely vague to precise. I don't believe it increases wear, but it does increase cabin noise (fewer rubber parts separating motor/trans equating to increased transfer of engine/trans noise).
Only way I think it would contribute to increased wear would be the increased shift precision/ confidence it provides leading to faster shifts, which the 915 trans still doesn't like (quick shifts = synchro grinding) . If you continue to shift allowing a moment to sync, it's a more confident/precise shift. Good luck, I'm happy with my set up & looking fwd to rebuilding my trans, but not expecting it will let me speed shift the same way I would in a newer car. Gordo |

1. Stock Porsche, fresh tranny/engine mounts (I would do that at a minimum if you do get the Wevo/PSJ because it's all one system and you want no weak links) 2. you could buy the "sport" Porsche tranny/engine mounts which are slightly stiffer rubber than stock coupe mounts (Cabrios/Targas got the stiffer ones stock, from what I've read). 3. You could get the Wevo Blacks, which is what I have in my car, which are stiffer than the "sport" Porsche mounts 4. Next in hardness is the Wevo Blues, which is much stiffer, and not something you'd want for a normal road car...even one that sees autocross/DE days would be better with Blacks if it's driven on the road for the majority. 5. Combo of Wevo Blues and Blacks to get a middle hardness setting What Gordo2 said is true for me too. The Wevo Blacks do transmit more road/engine/gearbox noise into the cabin. So, with that said, you do want to make sure that either your current stock mounts are good, or that you refresh them with the stock rubber mounts. I personally would go stiffer, either to the Sport Porsche, or the Wevo Blacks (which are really trick!). I've been running for while like this, with already worn syncros and it's a VAST improvement with no degradation in syncro performance. YMMV, but it's a good upgrade.
